#33 The Gift Of Storytelling with Robert McKee

The Gift Of Storytelling with Robert McKeeFor this week’s episode of Getting Goosebumps, Robert McKee was welcomed back on the show with open arms!

One of the most sought-after screenwriting lecturers in the world, Robert has taught over 60 Academy Award Winners and is an expert on the ins and outs of crafting a great story.

Robert talks exactly what’s on offer in his Storynomics course, which looks at the use of story in two directions: outward, into the world of marketing and inward, into the company itself, leadership and team building.

As a story expert, Robert knows finds it essential to give his audience complete clarity on what ‘story’ actually is. He explains how it is often incorrectly as a buzzword and why it is essential to differentiate between ‘narrative’ and ‘story’.

Giving the gift of story

Robert delves into content marketing, discussing why brands need people to find their website and immediately see something great.

So, what’s the best way to do that? Robert advises to give potential customers the gift of a great story, one that really offers some value.

We talk about why brands need to move away from bragging and promising and start focusing far more on giving, to build a positive message that their audience can relate to.

In this episode, we take a look at storytelling from a political angle. The U.S presidential candidates this year have really hit the nail on the head with telling a story that resonates with their audience.

So, taking a closer look at ‘the big reveal’ element of story, Robert Mckee’s shares his thoughts on the storytelling skill behind all the controversy!

Check out the next episode of Getting Goosebumps, "Trusting Employees to Tell Your Story" with J.T O'Donnell.
