#05 Why We Behave The Way We Do Online with Nathalie Nahai

Why We Behave The Way We Do Online with Nathalie NahaiIn this episode of Getting Goosebumps: The Power of Storytelling, I had a really interesting chat to psychology and marketing whizz Nathalie Nahai, Best-Selling Author of ‘Webs of Influence: The Psychology of Online Persuasion’.

With an impressive background in psychology, Nathalie lectures internationally on ‘web psychology’ and also writes for Marketing Week…so, she definitely knows her stuff when it comes to the world of marketing and story-telling. She also uses her expertise to assist businesses with their website design and content marketing.

Why we behave the way the way we do online

Nathalie throws us straight in the deep end with the term ‘web psychology’ which she coined in 2011. She explains the reasons behind it and tells us how it can be used to reveal the explanations behind our actions and behaviour online.

The sin of deceiving people into action

The discussion moves towards the more controversial topic of manipulation. Nathalie shares her experience with using behavioural manipulations and gives us some valuable insight into what ‘dark patterns’ actually are. Interesting stuff!

Packing an emotional punch to make the quickest first impression

With the endless options and distractions of the internet, we only have a short amount of time to really capture the attention of our target audience, which means making a quick AND lasting first impression can be daunting at times. However, don’t fret! This isn’t always as complicated as it may seem… Nathalie opens our eyes to how to pack a punch visually.
