The term is relatively new and has starting gaining traction since 2010. It has taken various industries by storm, most notably for recruitment with Marriot Hotels and Domino’s Pizza adopting the concept.

I recently wrote a blog discussing how powerful social media is for businesses within the hospitality sector. As I mentioned in the piece, for me, the hospitality sector is an area that lends itself perfectly to social media as a marketing channel. However, that is not to say it’s easy! In this blog I’m going to focus on the bar industry specifically, and look at how powerful social media can be for bars, clubs and pubs of all kinds.
With the hotel industry placing such a strong focus on customer service, reviews and recommendations, it comes as a surprise that so few hotels are making full use of social media. Much like in the ‘real world’, social media gives you the opportunity to talk to your guests, solve their issues and promote your services – but on a much larger and more transparent scale.
