The real 'colour of money'
The art of creative networking is a skill that many people believe is one of the most important activities you need to grow your business or progress your career.
It’s been the same since time began but interestingly enough, the same can now be said online. Creative networking is 100% about forging new relationships and 100% not about selling – the biggest error most business owners can’t resist making in any industry, let alone the creative sector.
Online business development requires a huge shift in people focus and mindset but its simple – and no different to the golden rules of offline activities.
Proper creative networking is definitely not a natural thing. Some people do it naturally but very successful people do it on purpose. In the words of Paul Newman’s great Eddie Felson, “Pool excellence is not about excellent pool”.
People who get anything from conventional networking understand that it’s not about selling. Instead it is more about making connections and most of all about helping other people and taking the time to get to know them – thinking in terms of what other people need and what legitimately interests them. Only then can you expect to see a return from any sort of social investment of time and energy. “Human moves, kid. You study the watch…while I study you”.
There is no getting away from the fact that people are interested in themselves more than you. With this knowledge we can become better networkers both online and in person.
Try and introduce this theory to your clients within their online creative business objectives. Is it an art or is it a science?
We’re making the art of communication a science and it’s proving to be exact. We’re enjoying the rewards of helping clients inject the personal touch into an automated process.
