A Sugar Sweet Start for "Google Dave"

LDPBusiness

March 11th 2009

DAVE HAZLEHURST is a director at Liverpool internet marketing agency, Ph Creative. He lives in Wallasey with wife Ali and their two children, Louie, aged four, and Ellie, 21 months. This is an account of his day.

6am:Wake up to Clint Boon’s “White No Sugar”, and Louie has ended up in our bed. With Ali now in his, it’s like musical beds in our house. Need to get a move on as off to BNI (early morning networking group) breakfast meet.

6.45am:Enjoy network meet, where I am handed some referrals and receive some back, one interested in Pay Per Click advertising and one for a website – makes getting up early feel so worthwhile.

FREE Seminar 19th March

In Business, having an ACE up your sleeve will help lead you to sales.

In a game of cards, having the winning hand isn’t always possible but any decent sharp will tell you – Play the man not the cards. Strategy is everything, without it you’re relying on luck. And see the problem I have with luck is, luck runs out and usually just when you need it the most.

Playing business is a lot like playing cards. And yes I do think it’s a game. A game a strategy, chance opportunity and competition. Right now the competition is heating up – the game’s getting tougher so what are you doing to get organised enough to beat your competition?

The real 'colour of money'

The art of creative networking is a skill that many people believe is one of the most important activities you need to grow your business or progress your career.

It’s been the same since time began but interestingly enough, the same can now be said online. Creative networking is 100% about forging new relationships and 100% not about selling – the biggest error most business owners can’t resist making in any industry, let alone the creative sector.

Online business development requires a huge shift in people focus and mindset but its simple – and no different to the golden rules of offline activities.

Proper creative networking is definitely not a natural thing. Some people do it naturally but very successful people do it on purpose. In the words of Paul Newman’s great Eddie Felson, “Pool excellence is not about excellent pool”.

People who get anything from conventional networking understand that it’s not about selling. Instead it is more about making connections and most of all about helping other people and taking the time to get to know them – thinking in terms of what other people need and what legitimately interests them. Only then can you expect to see a return from any sort of social investment of time and energy. “Human moves, kid. You study the watch…while I study you”.

There is no getting away from the fact that people are interested in themselves more than you. With this knowledge we can become better networkers both online and in person.

Try and introduce this theory to your clients within their online creative business objectives. Is it an art or is it a science?

We’re making the art of communication a science and it’s proving to be exact. We’re enjoying the rewards of helping clients inject the personal touch into an automated process.

Style alone is no longer good enough

Ph Creative start all website and marketing initiatives by designing the business outcome not the look and feel. The web is so competitive now that the market finally insists on a return on investment.

The focus needs to be on the message a target audience is left with after experiencing your marketing material.

The design should only add to this message and not confuse things - but that’s the true challenge of marketing - where creativity meets business development. When it comes to marketing spend, the fear in small businesses has been borne from a lack of RIO.

This has traditionally been because designers design what the customer wants and asks for NOT what they actually need.

We have learned to coach business owners/ manages and educate them as what will work and what will not - it’s not down to personal taste and about the brand and what the audience will respond too.

Now is the time to spend more money on marketing - but on the right balance of form and function. This issue is still highly prevalent online with website design.

Companies ask for a website and that’s what they end up with - not an online marketing machine. We have learned the hard way years ago when we tried to just sell web design.

Today, Ph.Creative has gone to great lengths, including building a our content management system, called PhUse™ so we can ensure our clients get what they need to support their business online. We also follow our proven online marketing strategy called PhUse™ Formula to ensure our clients success.

Our process is prescriptive to find the We have seen our business evolve from a creative graphic design company to online business development agency. We still highly creative, however there is sound business reasoning behind the work we produce.

We have a website that is not the best example of creativity and design by far, however it looks how to looks due to carefully testing and measuring response. This site is now generating £000's a month without any human intervention.

That was the brief - not give me a website that looks good. The fact that customers are becoming more aware of what they want and the market is becoming more and more competitive is a wonderful thing. It means the bedroom graphic designer and web designers can no longer get away with delivering just 'creative design'.

ACME featured Ph.Creative

Ph.Creative is a highly energised, innovative design and communications company based in Liverpool, Merseyside. With a team of Website Designers dedicated to producing creative, practical Web Design and Graphic Design. Ph.Creative has developed an innovative platform to launch businesses to the world wide web.

Headed by internet marketing entrepreneur Bryan Adams, Ph.Creative's 'PhUse™' technology marries a high-quality designed website with a revolutionary solution for e-marketing enabling you to leave your website to work for you.

Bryan explains: "Traditional web design companies gauge results on the volume of faceless traffic known as 'hits' delivered each month to a customers website. Who ever made money out of a 'hit'? A 'hit' in my estimation is a huge miss - a missed opportunity. It's not a popularity contest, your website is a powerful business marketing tool. Hits only become interesting to me when we know who they are and we also know they are interested in our product or service."

Ph.Creative's interactive website model can be applied to tailor to your business objective, providing and chasing leads.

"The best equivalent I can come up with is if a shop declared a 'fantastic days' trade because they had counted 2000 people stopping to look in the shop window. If you fail to engage any of your window shoppers what's the point? "We don't just build websites, we create online success. A vital part of any website is getting highly relevant visitors to your website."

Bryan developed PhUse™ after several years working in website design and having noticed that businesses were not utilising their websites to their best potential. Ph.Creative now train other web designers in the application of PhUse™ and pride themselves on their after-sales service, offering training to businesses in how to make the most of their website.

"Our approach has evolved over a number of frustrated years having unsuccessfully strived to exceed clients' expectations. By following the traditional process of just 'visually stimulating' web design we found it impossible to excite and delight our clients. In the search for 'raving fans' we had to change our approach. Now we simply concentrate on making our clients' websites fulfil their business objective. Website design should be all about lead generation and results. For us, the 'hits generation' has long gone."

First Class Training from Elite

Elite Fitness Consultants, one of the UK most recognised personal fitness training companies, is now expanding, thanks to its new website.

Lewis Bailey, Director of Elite Fitness Consultants, was impressed with the quality of his new website and the Design. He also appreciated the constant support of Ph.Creative team throughout the process. He said: “Ph.Creative provides an exceptional service from start to finish. The team are highly efficient and delivered a first class website for my company! Not only was my website live within six weeks but the expert IT marketing strategies provided my business with a huge advantage over our main competitors.”

Richard Jackson, designer for the project commented “Working on this project was great. Elite told us specifically what was expected and required from the site and I’m pleased to say we delivered. The site looks great but most of all it’s a fully functional business tool allowing Elite to begin to develop a database of fitness trainers throughout the area. The objective was to create a site that users can interact with by booking trainers and become a trainer. We definitely achieved this with a contemporary look and feel and fantastic imagery. ”
