A day in Bryan Adams' life

Aug 6 2008 by Tony McDonough, Liverpool Daily Post

Bryan Adams runs Liverpool internet marketing firm Ph.Creative. The firm’s offices are in Rodney Street, in the city centre.

This is his working day:

6.30am: My day starts with an hour-long early morning run, I like to call this my thinking time. I will usually write a list of things I have to do the night before and so I have an hour to think things over and mentally prepare myself for the day ahead.

8am: Generally, I like to be in the office before everybody else, so that I can have some quiet time to record any thoughts and ideas I’ve had and to fine tune notes for the days meetings, because once 9am comes around the team are in full flow and quiet time has disappeared for another day.

9am: I try to do all the least favourite jobs first, so I’ve got some great jobs to look forward to towards the end. I still maintain that I’m allergic to paperwork and filling out forms, etc, so the day usually starts with several cups of tea and this type of work. I delegate what I can, but I don’t get away with all of it.

9.30am: Next is email time (part one). I have a 30-minute rule for answering emails in the morning. Have you ever found yourself watching them as they pop up in the corner of your screen when they come in? You find yourself answering as they come in – it can ruin your morning. I have put a stop to that.

Sadly, I don’t do much hands-on design work any more (the design team are far better than me now anyway) but I do love being involved with the process and keeping up to speed with every one of the current live projects.

12.30pm: Around this time, I will try and get some lunch and then I usually take meetings in the early afternoon, as I’m not really a morning person.

I love talking with new clients about the possibilities we can create for them online and how we can help them. When I go through some of our techniques and strategies in terms of their own business they usually get quite excited and it’s great fun.

This naturally tends to spill over into the PhUse™ training and internet marketing training we offer to all of our clients as a matter of course. You can’t just buy a website at Ph.Creative, you have to know how to use it, too.

We have found in the past that clients without proper training don’t bother with using their website to its full potential and they obviously don’t get the results they are looking for. It’s like handing over a brand-new car to someone who can’t drive – they’re not going to get very far.

3pm: At the moment, I am currently leading some of the training sessions, usually starting at about 3pm but we’re currently working towards handing all of our standard training delivery to NoGuru – an amazing local training company (and a satisfied customer of ours too, as it happens).

4pm: Late afternoons usually consist of refining my public seminar material and organising new upcoming dates across the UK and the US.

My single favourite part of my working day is delivering these live seminars and talks about our internet marketing PhUse™ Formula.

It’s a chance to meet lots of new people and to help businesses change the way they think about their own website and open their eyes to the possibilities available to them to grow their business online.

7pm: It isn’t unusual for me to work until about this time. I regularly have to schedule various calls to New York and California at the moment and they don’t seem to appreciate calls in the middle of the night.

Some nights I will work later but it’s only because I love it.

It’s a game to me, not a job – I love it.
